IBM Developer Sandbox

A zero-setup workspace that helps developers discover, explore, and test APIs without the friction.

30%higher engagement & conversion
IBM Developer Sandbox original design work

The challenge

API discovery and testing needed a simpler entry point. Developers needed to explore capabilities and make their first successful call without a lengthy setup process.

My contribution

I led UX vision, interaction design, and information architecture for the Developer Sandbox (API Hub). Research showed developers preferred sandbox environments for API evaluation. I designed the journey from discovery to experimentation and purchase, bringing API exploration, tutorials, live execution, and code into one workspace. The experience combined a left-panel resource model, step-by-step tutorial integration, and a live execution panel for sample applications. The portfolio follows Alex from identifying an API need to building a working prototype in one session.

The impact

The platform reduced time-to-first-call by 45% and increased engagement and conversion by 30% across more than 15,000 active developers.
